Many thanks to Kevin and Scott for letting me proxy a load of figures in order to try out an American list and a Finnish list. The idea was to try out both army and then decide which to assemble for the Bolt Action tournament at Battlecry.
After two hard fought games, both of which were a draw at Maximum Attrition, I had made my decision.
American.
I am a little more familiar with the way the American list works and I already have a few US troops assembled.
When I got home today, my parcel full of plastic sprues from the Warlord Games sale was waiting for me. I took it straight down to my gaming room to begin assembling more Americans. Then I noticed the slight flaw in my plan. The 5 US infantry sprues I ordered were missing. In their place were 5 late war German sprues. I have emailed Warlord Games about the mistake but with the Xmas postage rush I am not sure when they will arrive.
So, on to plan B.
Finns.
I can hopefully have them all assembled by the end of the weekend.

Finns are the more competitive force in my opinion.
I spent the evening on easy army looking at lists, as my existing collections are too late war.
I could do an inexperienced North African American list, I have all the models, but it would have to be painted from scratch, and I cant do that, too much to paint. I could do a Brit Desert force, I have the troops already, but I would need too many vehicles, and it would be too hard to justify the expenditure, and it would need to be painted from scratch. I could do a Guadalcanal USMC Army, I have all the models I would need, bar 3 support teams, and the troops are part painted already. It wouldn't be as historical as I would have liked, or a quirky as I would have done for early war, but it would be competitive.
So ............. Semper Fi!
