A few points I am not confident of that have come up in games this week.
VB launchers: theese count as a light morter and can indirect fire. The rules say you can indirect fire if a member of the CREW can see the target. Do other members of the squad count as crew?
Char c: the side hull machine guns say they cover the front and side arcs but the rules say you work out sight by looking along the barrel (page 80) The front of the tracks block los from the left side mmg and the right side of the front arc. Can a veachle block its own los or can the left mmg not shoot targets in the right side of the front arc (and vice versa for the right mmg)?
Measuring range: everyone says range is measured from the weapon not the base for infantery and tanks. What page of the rule book says this.
Running over an obstacle: I saw a video on you tube that said you can run over an obstacle if you start in contact with it, I cant find this in the rules.
Sorry if some of this 7s basic, I am still new to the game.

Most people I have played against measure from the base of infantry and the weapon with vehicles.

That is what I would assume. During the second game though I measured the range of my atr from the base, kevin told me to measure it from the barrel. That got me thinking. In the rules for vehicles it says to sight the shot along the gun but it never states where to measure the range from in the rules or faq that I can see.

Not sure with the VB launchers.
The Char 2C is one of those oddities in the rules that breaks the rules and you have to fudge it a bit. If I was using it I would probably go more actual line from the gun but would not fault anyone else for using the full front arc.
There are a lot of holes and inconsistencies in the rules. I try to talk over any issues before a game and try to be consistent if there is a grey area. It does make it awkward in a tournament setting playing against unfamiliar players.

I think maybe the char c you are possibly correct. The side mmgs can possobly cover the side and front untill parallel with the track then be blocked.
As for measuring range i think next week
It might be best to ask my opponent how they do it and go with that. The difference is minimal and probably wont effect the outcome of the game.

Measuring artillery I would go from the barrel rather than the base as the bases people use can vary greatly. Some do not even put their arty on a base.
Basing is one of the grey areas in the game. It does not state in the book that figures have to have a certain size base. A standing figure could be on a 25mm base whereas a prone figure could be on a base anywhere from 40mm to 60mm wide.
One player could have the howitzer on a beautiful big scenic base or no base at all. Should you measure to the gun or a crew member?
Some even model their vehicles on bases. It was a question that appeared in a game recently that should a vehicle be able to fit through a gap that it's base or the model can fit through.

With the char I think it is just a bit of an abstraction that then gets into an argument with the literal point on aim rule Even thought you cant draw a line from the end of the barrel its clearly say the they can fire in the front arc. Take it where you can  |

Dont stress kevin, I enjoyed the game. I was posting as I am playing at battlecry on sat and I am aware I have only played 4 games of bolt action. I was hoping for more perspectives on how people Interprete the rules. Im just want to make sure I do thinks like measure all my ranges from the right points etc. I look forward to our next game. I have ordered another 75mm so looking ford to playing a game with all equipment that wasnt destroyed by the luftwaffe brfore the invasion |

I also saw the running over obstacles video but cannot find any reference in any rules.
While most people in the tournament will be fine, you may find one or two that will try to bend any and every rule. Try to take a good look at their list before the game and try to remember any special rules like slow or two man turret. They are easy to forget in the heat of play.
If it is a tense close game I sometimes get carried away and forget a rule or two. Most are fine if you point something out or query something.
I have quieted the VB rule on the Warlord forum. Awaiting answers.

Hi all,
I have more rules questions following battlecry.
Indirect fire: I cant find in the rules where it says weapons with the inderect fire rule cant perform indirect fire after moving. Most have the fixed rule which prevents this however my interpritation would be light morters and vechle mounted howitzers could indirect fire after moving. Am I missing something?
Taking objectives: I cant find where it says that a squad must be 3 or more models to take or contest an objective. All I can see is on page 113 for point defence where it says that the unit must be infantry or field artillary.

The squad of three or more models to capture objective was a rule introduced by the tournament organiser on the day.
Also, it was not made clear which rules were being used for the objective. Whether it was the rules in Point Defence or Hold Until Relieved.

After posting the VB question on the Warlord forum and the Bolt Action international facebook page, the majority opinion is that the soldier with the VB launcher needs to have line of sight to the target.

I was felt a bit silly after clearing the objective with my tank and taking it with my hq only to find my hq couldnt hold it. I was sure it was anything except vehicles. Did it say it in the scenario?
As for VBs I may have to revisit thinking they are useless. They actually make inexperienced squads quite potent if you can flick a few pins onto a vet with another unit to stop them moving.
