My other Chindit thread is getting a bit long, and sidetracked with paint purchasing conversations, so I've decided to start a new one.
This will detail my Platoon List and be a visual record for me of what I still have to purchase, and what still has to be painted! I've never prepared a list in advance before, I normally buy a bunch of stuff that I like, paint it up, then make a list from what is available. This way of collecting and painting from a pre planned list is very new to me, and I'm hopeing that this thread will help me keep focused on what I need to get done.
I will add notes and photos to each unit entry as I plan them, buy them, and paint them. The aim is to have them ready for February to be able to take them to the Bolt Action Tournament at Battlecry.
Scotts Brits in Burma - 1000pts exactly, 13 Order Dice, chosen from the Generic Reinforced Platoon List.
Command
Veteran 2nd Lieutenant and his runner - 78pts
I've actually downgraded the Lt to Reg. That allowed me to get a LMG for my Commando section. I also changed out the model for a more rugged looking chap with a SMG, you never know when those extra couple of shots will come in handy.
Regular Forward Artillery Observer, on his tod - FREE! because we're British you know!
From Brigade Games.
Infantry
2 Sections of Chindits, both having an NCO with a SMG, 5 chaps with rifles, and a bloke with a LMG - 128pts each
I'm using models from The Assualt Groups British in the Far East range, with one rifleman from each squad from Brigade Games.
2 Sections of Gurkhas, both having an NCO and 6 other guys, all with rifles - 98pts each
Done! plus a couple of extras.
1 Section of Commandos. An NCO and 6 guys all with SMGs - 119pts
I know there weren't any Commando units in the Chindit expeditions but I am using the Commando rules to represent a small team of experianced jungle fighters, those guys who are hand picked for an assualt, given the close range weapons and told to infiltrate or flank the enemy and hit them hard. You know those guys, the ones they wrote Commando Comics about. I expect all the models will be from Wargames Foundry. These are also done, but I think I might add a LMG to the squad, so 1 more to paint.
Support
Regular Medium Mortar Team with Spotter - 60pts
Painting is finished, just needs varnish. Mine came from TAG, still need to find a spotter model.
Regular Sniper Team - 50pts
Another couple from Brigade Games.
Regular Anti Tank Rifle Team - 30pts
I have the Warlord one
Regular Light Artillery with Spotter - 65pts
I have one from West Wind, the crew are awful, so I have chucked them away and made new crew from the plastic USMC models with metal Chindit heads. Just needs painting, and to source a suitable spotter model.
These 2 spotters from Brigade games will work with my artillery and mortar. Regular 15 CWT Truck - 31pts
To tow the 25 pdr or provide transport for 1 lucky squad. Model ordered from Brigade Games.
Regular Humber Mk IV Armoured Car - 115pts
Ordered the Blitzkreig one. Its a Mk II but Shhhhhhh, dont tell any one.

I have found when using my British paras that a command unit with smg's is very useful when kept close to my assaulting units. They take a lot of pins and the leadership bonus is very helpful.
Perhaps drop the mortar down to an inexperienced unit and add a friend to the artillery observer. Give them both rifles and use them as a sniper type unit after the artillery is dropped. That way it continues to be a useful unit all through the game.

I'm a bit leary of just a single inexperienced unit in a mostly Reg and Vet List, even though it makes the most sense games wise. Its not a final list, just the one I am collecting and painting to, so there probably will be some changes along the way.

Here's the state of play at the moment. About a dozen figs, 1 Artillery piece and 2 vehicles to go.

Andy Chambers 'liked' my army on Facebook this morning. That gave me a bizarre little Fanboy type thrill. I wasn't expecting that (the compliment or my reaction) but its made me dead chuffed.

Considering the performance of your army this weekend, I would recommend dropping the "Tough As Boots" rule. With all the Gurkhas and Commandos many, many attacks it is not really needed and was forgotten about during our game. Your assault based infantry would get a lot more benefit from "Up And At 'Em", "Vengeance" or "Blood Curdling Charge". I think the former would help prevent your Vets from getting pinned down and failing their devastating charges.

Do you need any more of the plastic plant for your bases? I have seen some in a shop in Pukekohe and can get some if you need it.

If they are exactly the same, Yes Please.
I probably wont need it this time but for the sake of a few dollars better to have some spare in case (or when?) the army gets bigger.
Thanks for keeping an eye out.

Added finished pics of Sniper Team and Artillery Observer and work in progress pics of the truck and armoured car. And these are what I finished this weekend. Gotta love a weekend without the rest of the family around.
